J.Crew’s loyal customers (like myself) can attest to the fact that some pieces can be a bit too pricy at our favorite store. As much as I would love to drop $800 dollars every time I shop there I find myself only buying the essentials before I go out of control. So alas, I leave without those lovely cashmere sweaters yet again.
J.Crew must have read my mind or heard my groans every time I looked at a price tag because the company has officially announced the creation of J.Crew Mercantile. Sounds great…but why introduce this if J.Crew already has outlet stores that provide lower priced options already?
The idea is to provide lower priced options without the ‘outlet’ name. In other words the products created for J.Crew Mercantile will probably not be for sale at J.Crew stores or J.Crew Factory (the outlet stores). So far not much is known about what will exactly be sold and when the stores will open.
Woman’s Wear Daily reported “J.Crew trademarked the J.Crew Mercantile name in November for a variety of categories and services including jewelry, fashion and travel accessories, umbrellas and backpacks.”
Not much more has been released about where the stores will be or if they have begun production on products. However, you can bet I will be making the pilgrimage to wherever these lovely new additions to the J.Crew Family (and my closet) pop up!
